Leadership Legacy Symposium Papua New Guinea 2026

7 to 9 September 2026 | APEC Haus and International Convention Centre, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

The 4th Annual Leadership Legacy Symposium Papua New Guinea 2026 successfully concluded after 3 days of leadership, dialogue, reflection and connection in Port Moresby.

Hosted by the Pacific Legacy Leadership Foundation Incorporated, the regional gathering brought together more than 130 leaders representing government, civil society, the corporate sector, faith based organisations, traditional leadership and changemakers from across Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Australia and New Zealand.

Grounded in Pacific values, leadership and legacy, LLS PNG 2026 created a space for leaders across sectors and generations to exchange experiences, strengthen relationships and explore how leadership can create meaningful and lasting impact across our communities.

Servant Leadership: Building a Legacy through Service

The 2026 symposium centred on the regional theme:

“Servant Leadership: Building a Legacy through Service.”

The symposium was officially opened by Chief Guest of Honour, His Excellency the Governor General Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae, who challenged delegates to move good leadership beyond a Pacific vision and towards building strong institutions capable of positively impacting future generations.

Across the 3 days, the Leadership Vaka became a metaphor for the collective journey of Pacific leadership, moving leadership beyond position and title towards cooperation, service, shared values and lasting impact.

A Gathering of Pacific Leadership

LLS PNG 2026 brought together prominent speakers, panelists and practitioners from Papua New Guinea and across the Pacific to share their experiences, challenges and lessons from leading change in their respective communities and sectors.

The programme provided opportunities for delegates to listen, challenge one another, reflect and return to their respective communities with new perspectives on leadership, service and stewardship.

Participants explored leadership through the lenses of courage, humility, integrity, accountability, collaboration and positive ethics.

Key Outcomes

Several important leadership priorities emerged throughout the symposium.

Participants were challenged to strengthen Pacific leadership through values of respect, care, love and trust, supported by character, competence and consistency.

The symposium also reinforced the importance of accountability and a strong moral compass, greater collaboration between the public and private sectors, and meaningful opportunities for emerging leaders to contribute to decisions affecting their generation and communities.

Discussions extended across governance, faith, families, corporate leadership, youth, sport and media, demonstrating that servant leadership can be applied throughout society and not only within traditional positions of leadership.

Empowering the Next Generation

A key part of LLS PNG 2026 was recognising the role of young and emerging leaders in shaping the future of the Pacific.

Youth voices contributed to conversations around intergenerational leadership, collaboration and inclusive decision making, highlighting the value of creating environments where different generations can work together and where young people are actively empowered to lead and contribute.

Continuing the LLS Vaka Journey

The conclusion of LLS PNG 2026 does not mark the end of the journey.

The Leadership Legacy Symposium continues to grow as a regional platform for Pacific leaders to connect, learn, collaborate and contribute towards a shared leadership narrative for the Pacific.

The conversations and relationships formed in Port Moresby now continue within organisations, communities, institutions and countries throughout the region.

Delegates departed with a collective charge inspired by Grand Chief Sir Bob Dadae:

Lead with values, inspire others, serve with purpose, and build institutional legacies that outlast this generation.

As the LLS Vaka continues its voyage, the lessons and relationships established through LLS PNG 2026 become part of a much larger journey towards stronger and more resilient Pacific leadership.
